Isimangaliso Wetland Park was officially declared as a world heritage site in 1999, by Unesco. The area is massive in size 3,280 kmĀ² in total and now also includes Mkuze Game Reserve. Starting in the South from the St Lucia Lighthouse and to the North bordering Mozambique. The ideal area from which to explore has to be St Lucia as one may enjoy both the Western and Eastern sides of the park with easy access. Cape Vidal is situated within the Eastern side which also borders the Indian Ocean.
The Eastern side or commonly referred to as Cape Vidal side is the most popular as it offers both a bush and a beach experience.
