Their is no place on Earth where one has such an opportunity to witness such diverse and glorious sightings while in the area of St Lucia. The epicentre of wildlife in Zululand, within close proximity to so much and yet so quaint. Over the last couple of days we have once again been experiencing splendid weather to say the least, cool mornings and warm days. This change of season from hot summer to cooler winter months means that once again we get to see the Hippo’s lounging about on the banks of the estuary one has to see it to believe numerous pods of Hippo’s lying motionless absorbing the sun. During the hot summer months its just to hot for them to venture out and so remain in the water for the better part of the day.
However with cooler weather they quickly jump at the opportunity to get out and relax. Youngsters getting up to mischief what else could be expected with the occasional grunt from their mothers. Its a brilliant time to be in St Lucia other sightings while on a Hippo and Croc boat cruise includes a large amount of bird life, from Mangrove Kingfishers to Pied King Fishers African Eagles calling from the distance with the occasional kill its splendid dont forget to take the binoculars along its a must. Nile crocodiles also become very active this time of the year as they are seen more along the banks looking for a easy treat. Top or most popular trips are by far the early morning and late afternoon sunset trips due to thm being so popular one must book in-advance.
Yet another exciting outing during this time of the year must be the Night Drives, what more could one ask for than a sight od the elusive leopard and over the last 3 nights we have been very lucky with sightings each and every night of this magnificent creature, last nights night drive one of the best ever included Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Giraffe, Hippo and Rhino a splendid 3 hours out in the bush. With only 10 seats its a popular outing as well and should book prior. Take a warm jacket along and ensure that you have charged those batteries more than once we have had clients run out of batteries only to their own detriment.
Well until our next update of whats happening in St Lucia have a great time and keep on tracking.
